Yoga and Art Practice for Spaciousness

These days we are inundated with all kinds of advice for creating balance in our lives.  We can become overwhelmed and discouraged.  An antidote is to simply seek spaciousness.  Creating space is like clearing the clutter from mind, body and spirit. Try to approach this practice without judgment, just an intention to create more space. Keep your day spacious, limit your practice to 15-20 minutes!

Downward facing dog (adho muhka svanasana) http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/491:

Spend one to five minutes in down dog.  Inhale “create”, exhale “space”.  Think about extending through the spine and lengthening the limbs.

Meditate for 5-10 minutes with hands resting palms up on your thighs, holding Akasha mudra, middle fingers meeting thumbs http://thehealingsphere.blogspot.com/2010/05/mudra-for-opening-chakras.html.  Continue to inhale “create” exhale “space”.

Create: Spend 5 minutes each day making a sketch, which visually documents something you have done that you didn’t think you could do (however big or small).  Use any medium you like.  Recalling moments that opened space for you will naturally cultivate greater capacity for spaciousness. If drawing an image does not make sense for you, why not write it as beautifully as you can?
